The Craziest NYFW S/S 2014 Beauty Trends

Designers want you to remember their collections, and sometimes they take drastic measures to make sure that their presentation leaves a lasting impact. Over-the-top runway sets, musical or theatrical performances, exaggerating styling or extravagant makeup are just a few ways to draw attention to their designs. Here are a few of those attention-grabbing trends that didn’t go unnoticed:

3.1 Phillip Lim SS15: Extreme (Tornado level) Wind-Swept Hair

Not sure if my skin would look this amazing after surviving a tornado but these models seem to pull it off. Will we be rocking this trend come spring? Likely, but definitely not on purpose.

Alexander Wang SS15: Barely-there Brows

All the models in Wang’s show had to bleach their brows to portray a clean and “strong” look. All we see is forehead. This may work or some, but we’re getting a major alien vibe here.

Marc Jacobs SS15: No Makeup

The models literally wore no makeup in the Marc Jacobs runway show. "The look for the show features no makeup – we only applied moisturizer,” said lead makeup artist, Frané§ois Nars, Founder & Creative Director who used NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream on the models. “With Marc we always take it to the extreme, we’ve done bold looks in the past, but this season we wanted to make a statement by not applying anything.”

Rodarte SS15: Pierced Eyebrows

This isn’t just one piercing, because we’d be totally down with that trend, but there are like seven piercings per eyebrow. The NARS press release for this look states that the makeup was “fresh face – youthful and vibrant” which makes sense for the nude lips and rosy cheeks, but… those eyebrows are far from that description.

Although we’re not likely to rock any of these trends in real life, we can definitely respect the designers for taking risks with their art. Fashion should never be boring and these looks are definitely not dull!
