Classic Hollywood Hair and Makeup

When you want to go all out on a big night, nothing says high glamour like Old Hollywood hair and makeup.

Take inspiration from these big screen beauty bombshells:

Forget about The Rachel.” The award for the most-emulated hairstyle ever goes to ¦ Veronica Lake.
Get those signature peekaboo waves by blow-drying hair smooth with the help of serum and a paddle-brush, and then combing into a deep side part. Curl wide pieces of hair vertically, curling all pieces in the same direction. Pin hair up to the head with bobby pins to let the curls set, then brush out once they’ve cooled.

The award for the sexiest bedroom eyes goes to¦ Elizabeth Taylor.
Famous for having an extremely rare set of (naturally) violet peepers, Taylor was also born with a double set of eyelashes (I know). Channel your inner Cleopatra with a set of false lashes and some black kohl liner. Strong, groomed eyebrows also helped make Taylor stand out from the crowd, so go easy on the plucking. Use an eyebrow pencil in a colour just slightly darker than your natural shade and fill in your brows with short strokes.

The award for the brightest pout goes to¦ Marilyn Monroe.
The ultimate sex kitten helped make scarlet lips a red carpet staple and led the way for modern-day copycat Gwen Stefani. Use a lip liner and lip brush to keep the colour from bleeding around the mouth. Blot with tissues and apply multiple layers of lipstick for added staying power. Touch up often. And if you really want to channel Norma Jean, dab on some Chanel No. 5 (she’s famous for cooing that the classic scent was all she wore to bed).

Honourable mentions:

Sophia Loren for putting winged eyeliner on the map. Get the cat eye with black liquid liner and gold shadow.

Audrey Hepburn for making such a simple ‘do (short bangs and a chignon) look unbelievably elegant. A pair of sparkling earrings will help you get that gamine neck.
Grace Kelly for giving short-haired girls a special-occasion hairstyle of their own. Use small curlers to make waves, then pin hair straight back (no visible part) to add some height to your crown.

Greta Garbo and Bette Davis for making sad eyes beautiful with prominent lower lashes. Get the look with false lashes that come in small clusters (or cut the regular kind into smaller pieces).
