Beauty Panel Review: Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel

Sally Hansen has answered our prayers. For a while our beauty experts have been dreaming of a gel manicure that could cure without a lamp and remove without all the hassle of soaking or peeling. Sally Hansen’s brand new Miracle Gel gives you up to 14 days of colour and shine in two easy steps. With 47 shades to choose from, they have truly out-done themselves.

Want to win a Sally Hansen Miracle Gel prize pack? Melissa Forrest will be taking over our @29Secrets Twitter account on October 14 at 8pm EST for one hour to answer your nail questions (for example: How do I prevent chipping? What colours are in style for fall?), and give you the full scoop on this incredible new product. Be sure to join in on the conversation during the Twitter Party because one lucky reader whose question is answered will win a Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Prize Pack ($100 value)! Rules: Tweet your question to @29Secrets, tag @SallyHansenCA and use the hashtag #WinSally on October 14, between 8-9pm EST.

We put Miracle Gel’s claims to the test and had our beauty panel members try it out. They also dished on what their own miracle invention would be. Read on to find out what they thought:

I brought my Miracle Gel with me this summer on my two-week trip to Europe. I packed three shades, anticipating that I’d have to change my polish a few times during my holiday. To my surprise, my first application, made the day before I left, lasted me all the way until my last couple days in Italy. That’s when I knew this was truly a miracle product. Also, I love that there are endless colour choices. Many at-home gel systems offer a limited variety of colour choices, so having a ton to choose from means I am never going to get bored of this product.

If I were to create my own miracle invention, it would be a medicine that would cure the ol’ writer’s block. Being an editor of a magazine, I need to be constantly brainstorming cool and new articles that our writers will enjoy, and sometimes (especially after a long day) my brain shuts down. I would love to pop a magical pill and all of a sudden have my creative juices flowing with brilliant ideas.

I haven’t gotten a single gel manicure since I started using Sally Hansen Miracle Gel a few months ago—and I don’t foresee myself getting one! This formula is by far the best LED-free gel polish I’ve tried. I will get a solid week of chip-free wear with a super glossy finish. I actually like the look of gel manicures, so I add a couple extra coats of color and top coat to give that authentic, shellac-looking finish (great for thin, brittle nails like mine). If all miracles could come true, I’d wish for a machine that could give my hair a fabulous, salon-quality blow out while I drink my coffee in the morning. I just wanna sit under it, let it work its magic and finish getting ready with a bouncy, lifted style worthy of any blow out bar in town.

I’d like to consider myself a bit of an (amateur) nail aficionado and along the years my collection has gotten at least 6 makeup bags strong. A variety of luxury and drugstore brands have graced my tips but it wasn’t until now that I found everything I wanted in a formula and I really mean it. The Sally Hansen Miracle Gel offers a gel-like finish and shine that lasts up to two weeks without the need for a curing lamp and let me tell you, the shine stays. The extra gooey formula melts on my nails with ease and the flat brush allows the delivery to be precise — It’s rare that I’ll get the colour on my cuticles. I’ll be honest, I like to change my nail colour like I change my underwear (daily of course!). The fact that the polish comes off with regular nail polish remover means a lot to me — I mean, don’t even get shellac manis anymore because I can’t dive in to the commitment that’s required.

DIY manis over a cup of tea at my fellow British friend’s house had me musing over the possibility my own miracle invention. A bottomless teapot and never ending supply of chocolate digestive biscuits would be perfection, don’t you think?

I’m a big fan of salon gel manicures, but it’s not something I can afford to do all the time. Plus there’s the inconvenience of salon appointments and the tedious soaking-wrapping-and-scraping removal process. So when I heard that Sally Hansen had launched its Miracle Gel, I had to take this wallet-and-time-saving lacquer for a spin. It simply required two coats of the Miracle Gel Colour Coat–I test drove a fall-perfect rich red called Dig Fig– followed by the Miracle Gel Top Coat. In the end, I quite liked the new polish formula, especially the mega-shine factor, and colour.

All this “Miracle” talk makes it fun to think about other game-changing creations that would make my day-to-day life a whole lot easier. Since I’m guilty for opting for takeout more than I’d like to admit, my miracle invention would be a domestic robot that could do my weekly grocery shop, and prepare delicious and healthy home-cooked meals on the daily.

It was three years ago when I discovered gel manicures; I was attending a friend’s destination wedding in Costa Rica and like any woman prepping for an epic sun-filled vacation I had to get beautified, one task included getting my nails done. My BFFs dubbed it “the dream nail polish” that would last for weeks – no chipping or peeling. After putting my first gel manicure through the rigours of travel I was hooked and routinely went to my local nail salon to get it done.

When Sally Hansen came out with its Miracle Gel I thought “How can you have the gel manicure without a UV light?” Boy was I wrong when I tested it out! This product can be applied in two easy steps; first, apply the Miracle Gel Colour Coat to bare nails followed by the Miracle Gel Top Coat. It dried quickly, cuts down on the time and money spent in the salon and it lasts up to 14 days. Plus, the most amazing part, it can be removed with acetone-based or acetone-free nail polish remover – I checked to make sure. Now, all I need is a miracle device, like a teleportation machine, so I can travel to exotic locals, like Costa Rica, anytime and anyplace!
