There are some key moments in a girl’s life when she’s going to want to look her best. Whether you’re graduating, tying the knot or nervously anticipating that big date, you’ve undoubtedly marked the special day on your calendar and are eagerly anticipating its arrival. But before you pull out the tweezers, wax and hair dye, there are some key beauty fixes NOT to attempt on the big day!
So take a deep breath and read on below to ensure you don’t suffer a beauty blunder:
Hair Removal: No, I’m not suggesting you don’t wax or shave for your big event (if the event falls in the summer, hair removal is pretty mandatory unless you’re, um, French), but there are some removal methods to definitely avoid on the big day. If you prefer to wax, it’s best done a few days prior to your event as waxing can irritate the skin, resulting in red bumps, pesky ingrown hairs and nasty bruises. It’s also best to exfoliate prior to waxing and have a professional wax you to prevent bruising. Shaving, while quick and efficient, should also be done the night before the big day. Soaking in a tub or a steamy shower will ensure that the hair follicles remove easily and will prevent razor burn and/or razor bumps.
Facial: The big event is approaching, but you’re faced with a Jupiter-sized pimple on your face”what do you do?! Firstly, don’t pop it! If it means wrestling with your own hands, popping it is one of the worst things you can do, as it will only irritate the breakout. Also a beauty no-no, is booking a last minute appointment for a facial; the treatment may cause redness and further breakouts, or worse, you may suffer a severe skin reaction. Facials are, however, a great way of sloughing away dead skin cells, yielding luminous, glow-y skin, but is best done a week before the scheduled event. If you’re in a pinch, a cortisone injection from the Derm’s office will minimize an ego-deflating cyst.
Hair: One of the easiest ways to make a memorable entrance on the big day is to change your hair, but it can also be disastrous. If you do plan on switching-up your hairstyle or hair colour, try and avoid anything drastic on the day of. Dyeing your hair could go terribly awry, or, you could end up with a hairstyle that resembled as if Edward Scissorhands were the stylist himself. Instead, meet with your stylist a week before for colour and/or cut to provide him/her ample time to correct it if need be.
