5 Nail-art Trends for Short Nails

Stubby, bitten & brittle no more! There’s no reason why short nails should look any less glamorous than Lana Del Rey‘s talons. Here are some of the hottest nail trends for short nails.

Caviar nail treatment by Ciaté©

Caviar nails are a glamorous way to create an eye-catching effect. The process is simple with ciaté©’s kit. Simply brush on the sticky base coat, fix on the included mini caviar beads and then top it all off with a glossy top coat to seal in the beads. This mani won’t last longer than a couple days, but it’s perfect for a night out. Ciaté©’s kit claims to be the original, but this look can be easily replicated for less with mini seed beads from a craft store. Sephora, $28.

 OPI Black Spotted

OPI Black Spotted

The absolute hottest trend for nails right now is without a doubt, Black Spotted by OPI. The premium salon brand came out with black shatter last year, but this summer, beauty junkies are coveting Black Spotted. The new formula works similarly to the crackle top coat, except that it creates a spotty, modeled look, like an oil slick. It’s a lot more polished (pun intended) than its big sister black shatter, and a lot more versatile. Layer it over orange for a cheetah print, or metallic for a glam effect. The polish is impossible to find in stores (at least for right now), but people are bidding on ebay in hopes of scoring a bottle.

 Ciate velvet nail art

Velvet manicure

Matte-nails have been around for a while now, but the velvet manicure is the newest trend for your digits. Ciaté©’s kit is available in three rich shades, making this velvety smooth manicure perfect for the fall season. Sephora, $21.

 Sally Hansen magnetic nail art

Magnetic Nail Color

Love nail art but have shaky hands? Magnetic nail polish will be your best friend. Simply brush on a base coat; and when you apply your second coat, hold the magnet (located conveniently on the cap) above your nail for 10 seconds. You’re left with an eye-catching 3-D effect. Sally Hansen’s formula is inexpensive and comes in a range of metallic colours that are so flattering on shorter nails.

 ImPRESS press-on manicure

And if you’re still pining for longer nails, fake it! imPRESS press-on manicure is a new product that gives you long nails without drying time. You don’t even need glue to put these on! And when you’re done with them, they peel off easy with some nail polish remover. A hybrid between nail stickers and fake nails, they come in eye-catching designs and colours. Nicole Scherzinger also created a collection of designs for the brand. They’re also not very long, so you can still play the piano or pick up pennies from the floor without breaking a nail!
