Let the Met Gala countdown begin! Vogue has confirmed that Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour have been announced as the co-chairs for the annual sartorial soirée. The gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring Costume Institute exhibition, which will be “Costume Art” themed, will take place on Monday, May 4, 2026.
The 2026 Met Gala will mark Beyoncé’s first appearance in a decade since last walking the sartorial steps in 2016 when she attended the Manus x Machina gala in Givenchy Haute Couture. Over the years she has attended seven different times since making her debut back in 2008.
Kidman and Williams, meanwhile, are Met Gala mainstays having attended several times over the years. The Oscar-winning actress and the seven-time Grand Slam champion both made appearances at the event’s “Superfine” gala this past May.
Vogue also announced that Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz will co-chair the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee, with members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson and Yseult.
Additional host committee members will be announced at a later date.
The 2026 Met Gala will be on May 4 and is “Costume Art” themed
The 2025 Met Gala theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honouring the influence and history of Black tailoring, which also raised record funds for the Institute.
The theme for the next Met Gala is “Costume Art,” celebrating the deep connection between fashion and fine art by pairing historical and contemporary garments with masterpieces from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection to highlight the dressed body as art. The theme will explore the dynamic between clothing and the body beneath, with the show organized into a series of thematic body types, ranging from the naked body to the pregnant body and the ageing body.
This theme also inaugurates the new permanent Condé M. Nast Galleries, emphasizing fashion’s status as art, said Costume Institute Curator Andrew Bolton.
The show will feature around 200 garments and 200 artworks, spanning from prehistory to the present day.
The next Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 4, 2026
