The latest episode of Project Runway Canada saw the designers tasked with taking a staple wardrobe item from Joe Fresh and turning it into a signature look that not only had to showcase the staple piece, but transition into a second look while still incorporating that Joe Fresh piece. In the end, while Cat was victorious in turning a basic white button down from workwear into a western-style fringe look that judge Jeanne Beker called “fabulous” and judge Spencer Badu said went “from corporate to cowgirl,” the challenge proved a little too challenging for Little Feather who was given a Joe Fresh vest with which to work.
While Jeanne appreciated Little Feather’s first look which involved a cape, even acknowledging she would wear it herself, the second look fell flat with the judges who said it failed to showcase “enough effort or imagination.”

We caught up with Little Feather who told us that the vest she was assigned really prevented her from doing her best.
What were your thoughts when you heard what this week’s challenge was?
I was super excited because since fashion school, one of my goals was to meet and collab with Joe Mimram the Owner of Joe Fresh. I’ve always wanted to work with a national brand, that I, as a mom, buys from. However, I don’t like vests!
What was the most challenging part of creating a look to be worn two ways?
Getting over the vest! I couldn’t get over it being the essential item that I had to showcase. It clouded my vision; it was hard to get over it. The convertible challenge was a real challenge.
What did it feel like to hear that Jeanne Beker would wear the first of your two-in-one look?
It felt like validation, like my brand was aligning with the people I would like to dress. A fashion icon, the voice of fashion! Stating she would wear my garment! That was wild.
What was your reaction to being eliminated?
I was excited! I was exhausted, the pressure was real. And the competition stakes were high, it was bad timing for me. My daughter was leaving for college and I was missing out on our last moments together. So, I was happy to go home but happy for the experience and the hunger to get better and be back!
This is something both you and Taalrumiq touched on, why is it important to you that Indigenous designers be represented on the show?
Because Indigenous people are the original people of Canada, and people need to know what we are capable of – that we are not only beautiful but talented as well. We also need role models for our communities, people to show us what can be done.

Describe your experience on Project Runway Canada.
It was definitely a dream! It was unreal! It was a moment of validation! It showed me that after working hard at your skill, being true to yourself does pay off. Never give up.
