Huge and massive news, kind of: Kristen Stewart will be the face of Chanel’s Gabrielle bag, in a campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself.
Of course, this isn’t particularly shocking since Stewart was photographed by Uncle Karl in a 2015 handbag campaign, appeared in “Paris in Rome” (a short directed by Lagerfeld), and is the face of Chanel makeup. And this particular campaign — according to WWD — will be shot this week (at an undisclosed location — dun, dun, dun).
“She is a real personality,” Lagerfeld said earlier in the year. “I don’t compare her to any other actress and she is really modern, whatever that means. And I think that she is perfect for the Chanel image of today.”
And at the same time, Stewart agreed: “Karl directs shoots and always provides an environment for a story to unfold,” she said. “And the way that it occurs is very natural. But always under his guidance, which is felt and inspiring. It’s never labour intensive because that is against the nature of spontaneous art.”
The bad news is that the Gabrielle bag is part of Chanel’s spring collection, so we probably won’t see the images anytime soon. Which means we’ll have to lean in especially close to any/all photos of our best friends Stewart and new girlfriend St. Vincent a.k.a. the greatest celebrity couple of all. The two made their official debut last week at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Show at the Chateau Marmont in L.A., and they were dressed better than any of us ever have been or ever will be. (Trousers! The best trousers!) So while we all have to wait like a bunch of suckers for Chanel campaigns, we at least have another source of Stewart-led joy.
And also, like, the promise of a fancy new purse that approximately .001% of us can afford.
