Sweater weather has arrived, and with it a fresh crop of makeup trends defined this season by both simplicity and drama. Blush remain a huge focus, as do dazzling gemstone eyeshadows, ultra-glossy lips, and natural looking skin that looks magically lit from within.
Here’s our favourite makeup trends of the moment that will be flooding your TikTok and Instagram feeds, and how to beautifully make them your own.
Burnt Blush
We’re moving away from pretty pinks and peaches for cheeks, with earthy berry shades being the choice pick for autumn. For the freshest look, your cheeks should almost have an over-sunned finish. It’s not about looking bronzed, but instead imbuing your cheeks with a deep russet hued flush. Brush your powder blush higher up on your cheeks, and even sweep across the bridge of your nose. Use a cream formulation if you want to build your blush coverage. This trend has a decidedly ‘70s feel to it—think Donna Summer and Cher—which we love.

Gothic Glamour
Embrace the darkness with punky graphic eyeliner and deep, dark lip hues which headline the emo makeup trend of fall 2022. Consider Julia Fox as the muse of the moment. Her signature edgy black graphic liner encapsulates the mood of the season perfectly. For eyes, experiment with navy, aubergine and espresso shades of liquid liner to give your look a personalized touch. If you prefer the drama on your lips, reach for satin or matte lipsticks in deep tones of burgundy, plum or brown.

50 Shades of Blue
Our love affair for cobalt coloured eyeliner has been strong for the past few seasons. For fall, it’s about taking blue hues next level, wearing the shade all over your lids in an electric wash of colour. On the runways, we saw all shades of blue eyeshadow from pastels to turquoise and oceanic azure shades. Pair with a swipe of black liner along the upper lashes and a few layers of volumizing mascara for a high impact look that seriously pops.
Try: Dior 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette in Denim, $76
Nearly Nude Skin
The glazed donut skin moment started by Hailey Bieber continues this season with the look for complexions this season dewy, glowing and extremely natural looking. The era of piling on layers of base products to perfect skin are gone; the end game is to put your freshest face forward and still have your skin look like skin, even if it comes with a few imperfections. Skip foundation and heavy powders, and instead achieve complexion perfection with an airy, light-reflecting concealer and tinted moisturizer.
Try: Summer Fridays Sheet Skin Tint, $55
Patent Lips
The vinyl-esque glossy finish of ‘90s lips is a key fall 2022 makeup trend and it’s one to rock if you love a next-level statement lip. Think lips so shiny they have a mirror-like effect which you can almost see your reflection in. The thing we love most about this makeup trend is it can be worn lo-fi or full tilt. If you want to go subtle, slick on a warm peachy nude shade; to amp things up, reach for a ruby red shade which has been a favourite look for celebs including Megan Fox and Gigi Hadid.
