The words acid and hair don’t sound like they’d mix well together and rather, would be something to avoid completely. Except that they do. Well, if the haircare brand is Redken and the product is their new Acidic Bonding Concentrate 5-Minute Liquid Hair Mask.
The long-time professional gone mainstream haircare brand has created a mask fuelled with their acidic bonding concentrate, a concentrated formula comprised of citric acid. Sound familiar? It should, citric acid is a popular alpha hydroxy acid, favoured in skin care. So when it comes to your hair and this mask, it kind of works the same way and has similar hydrating, soothing and softening results as a facial mask would.
Here’s how it works. The mask’s concentrated formula penetrates the hair to strengthen and repair its bonds, which then stabilize the keratin protein that makes up each of our hair strands. The bonds in each hair strand are what create our hair’s shape, strength, elasticity and shine. But when they’re damaged, courtesy of chemical services like hair colour and highlights, pollution, heat from blow dryers, curling irons and flat irons, and chlorine, they become dehydrated and can break and split. This is when your hair feels a bit rougher to the touch and can look dull and unmanageable when you try to style it. Redken’s 5-Minute Liquid Hair Mask, however, repairs this by working overtime to penetrating the hair fibres to repair and reinforce your bonds. Phew, that was very science-y. But worth it.
Because now that you know, all you need to do is, literally, take five minutes out of your week to wash your hair in the shower, towel dry it and then, rub a dollop of the mask in from root to tip. Hang out for five minutes and rinse it out. We promise that when you get out and style your hair it will feel and look healthier and more resilient and lustrous.
