We’re just going to say it. In our opinion, when it comes to makeup, NARS is perennially one of our top three go-to brands. Like, since 1994. Their colours are spectacular, they stay put and last, they don’t irritate our skin, and they make us feel very pretty every single time we wear them. That’s what you get when a fashion photographer and makeup artist like François Nars found an eponymous brand.
So, when we discovered that the French cosmetics and skincare company was expanding its Powermatte Lip Pencil collection, we needed to know more and get busy swiping.
We started by gliding “Dolce Vita’s” dusty rose hue across our entire lips. It was not an easy colour decision to make since there are a total of 10 great Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil shades, from “Dragon Girl’s” siren red and “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” auburn brown to “Born to be Wild’s“ brick red to choose from. Applying the long-wear pencil, however, was super easy, as its fat tip pulls double duty as both a liner and as a full coverage lippie.
And like the product’s name implies, our dusty pink’s high-intensity hue lasted all morning and through two coffee breaks before we reapplied. The formulation’s ultra-saturated shades are courtesy of the brand’s Power Pigment Complex, which works to flood lips with loads of colour that can last for up to 12 hours. All without drying them too. Each pencil imbues a light and creamy feel, even with its finish is matte. We would know. “American Woman’s” chestnut rose and “Walkyrie’s” burnt coral have since made their wearable way onto our lips and looked gorgeous.
NARS Cosmetics Powermatte High-intensity Lip Pencil in “Dolce Vita” and nine additional shades, each $38, available at Hudson’s Bay.
