When a skincare product combines my love of oil and my adoration of elephants, you know I’m an easy sell. Which is exactly how and why I’ve been slathering on Drunk Elephant’s Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter at the end of each day for about a month now.
For starters, the oil, which is actually in a balm formulation until I emulsify it between my hands, is super lightweight courtesy of its mix of masrula, kalahari melon and baobab seed oils with mongono and ximenia oils and glides over my face. It removes all of the day’s dirt, grime, pollution and makeup including my mascara, while its blend of non-fragrant blueberry, kiwi and strawberry fruit extracts soothes my skin. Also in the mix are cranberry seed, acai fruit and watermelon seed oils that moisturize my face so that it’s glowing and plump not tight and taunt.
Sometimes, when I feel sweaty or really grimy or too humid, I add a shake or two of the Bamboo Booster’s bamboo and charcoal powder formulation into the oil for a bit of a gritty scrub. It’s a nice gentle way to exfoliate my skin and remove dead skin cells without create teeny tiny tears.
But my favourite part is, of course, the elephant. Even though the brand is super committed to creating 100 per cent essential oil, silicone, fragrance and gluten-free products that are vegan, they’re also supporters of the International Elephant Foundation, so they’re cruelty-free. And that is everything.
