With a new season around the corner, you’ll want to make sure that your beauty look is updated and in tune with spring trends. Lip colours for this season promise to be bold and fierce statement-makers, leaving behind the dullness of winter for good.
1970s Disco Chic
The glam, bombshell-esque look inspired by the age of disco drama has now returned to fashion. With the emphasis on both bold eyes and lips, the previously rather muted look of makeup has undergone a major transformation. Lips are darkly painted, in bright berry-toned reds, allowing all of us to connect with our inner divas.
Try Nars’ Lipstick in Jungle Red, available at Sephora for $24.
Neon Brights
If you’ve never been a fan of red lipstick, maybe you prefer a brilliant hot pink or even daringly orange shade. Now our only issue is finding an outfit to match this strong beauty trend! The challenge here is to avoid looking like a circus clown and to instead come across as stylish and unique. While fluorescent lip colour may have seemed like an innovative idea on the runway, how will it come across in everyday life? Time will probably bring us toned-down shades, but the general idea appears to be brightness and excitement for spring.
Try Revlon’s Colorburst Lipstick in Fuschia, available at Shopper’s Drug Mart for $10.99.
Sweet Pinks
Sephora’s new Hello Kitty collection is a perfect example of this look, bringing us back to the cheeky innocence of girlhood with its fragranced watermelon-hued lip colour. Pink lip stains and lip tints are also gaining popularity, due to the effective youthful glow they provide.
Try Hello Kitty’s Sweet Gloss in Pink Bow, available at Sephora for $16.
Subtle Nudes
In contrast to the vivid shades this season, nude lips are understated, weekend chic, and simply beautiful. Neutral lip glosses offer a break from reds and pinks for those of you who prefer the no-makeup look.
Try MAC’s Lipglass in Underage, available at MAC Cosmetics for $17.50.
