Your A to Zebra Print Guide

You guide to patterns and prints for 2013

Patterns are popping up everywhere this winter, so it’s easy to get lost in a mix of stars, stripes and spots. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here’s a guide on some of the top pattern trends this season:

A “ Animals. Just when we thought we were done with lions, tigers and bears- oh my! “ turns out we are not quite done yet. However, we are switching to more reptilians. 2013 pattern trends bring snakeskins to the foreground. Try mixing snakeskin patterns with lace, paneling and block colors.

B – Bright, bold patterns. Think 90s for inspiration.

C “ Cosmic prints. Space is really far out, man. Check out Topshop’s cute line of cosmic leggings to space up your pants.

D – Dip-dyes. Turns out they’re not just for hair.

F “ Florals. In real life, flowers last a week. However, keep your floras alive forever by rocking them in a cute pastel print. Or think full bloom, like Lucy Lui’s to-die-for dress at this year’s Golden Globes.

G – Girly prints are always in.

I “ Illustrated Graphics. Bring your love of art to the next level by wearing it, like this Scenic Painting Print Umbrella Skirt found on romwe.com.

O – Ombre is still in this season as a print, however, just not as obvious. Think pastels, and longer lengths of fading.

S “ Skulls. For a touch of edginess, add a skull printed scarf to any outfit.

W– World prints, which we’ll be seeing a lot of. Think vivid colors, hot hippy tie-dyes, and Asian-influenced accents.

Z – Zebra print! Try this print on a manicure!

Patterns and prints are fun to try for a little flair in wardrobe basics. For example, swap that boring black blazer for a fitted blazer in a floral print. You can try experimenting with unique patterns by starting small with accessories, then going out with a bang by finding that perfectly patterned dress. Just don’t go too crazy with mixing patterns and prints…there is such a thing as too much!
