Easy, Homemade Spa Treatments

There is little out there that wipes away traces of stress quite like the thought of spending a day at the spa with your girlfriends, indulging in facials, massages and perhaps even a luxurious manicure. But trips to the spa can add up eventually and leave your wallet feeling lighter than it should feel. Rest assured ladies. There’s an easy fix and it may surprise you that you’ll find it tucked away in your cupboards and fridge. We’ve compiled some popular, tried, tested and true at-home spa treatments that you can whip up (quite literally) with what you likely have already at home.

Face Masks:

Hydrating:
Mix equal parts cooked oatmeal, full fat yogurt and two tablespoons of warmed honey for the ultimate hydrating mask. Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse with warm water. Don’t have oatmeal? Mix two tablespoons of yogurt and one tablespoon of honey.

Oily skin:
Mash one ripe banana with one tablespoon of honey. Add a few drops of lemon or grapefruit and apply for 20 minutes. Remove with warm water.

Body Scrub:

After your brew your morning coffee, take the cool coffee grinds and mix with one cup of sugar and ¼ cup of olive oil. Use as you would any other body scrub in the shower. If your coffee didn’t give you the kick start you were looking for, this will.

Hair:

On your next day off, give this a try. In a small bowl, warm up some olive oil (but make sure it isn’t too hot). Massage into your tresses all the way down to the ends. Keep in for as long as you can stand and wash your hair as you normally would. The result? Super shiny, smooth hair.

Extending colour treatment for dark hair:
For dark hair, rinse with strong coffee.

Beach waves:
Add one tablespoon of sea salt to one cups of warm water. Dissolve the salt crystals and add to a spray bottle. Spray over partially dried hair and dry naturally for loose summer waves.

Hands and Feet:

Pre-manicure/pedicure:
Try soaking your hands and hard working feet in warm milk for 20 minutes to keep them soft and exfoliated.

With more time, add the juice from half a lemon to a ¼ cup of milk and a ¼ cup of water. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and one tablespoon of olive oil for a relaxing foot soak.
