’90s Hair Accessories Are Back, & We Are Here For It

There was a bit of an Internet firestorm recently after Alexander Wang unveiled his fall 2018 collection in New York. It wasn’t because the show was a huge spectacle, or the fact that all the “It” girls like Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid walked the show, but because the models sported updos said to be secured by “banana clips” according to show stylist Guido Palau. Which, like, yeah, they looked like banana clips to me too, until keen beauty watchers/’80s & ’90s hair aficionados on social media piped in and corrected the stylist, pointing out that they were not in fact banana clips, but actually CLAW CLIPS.

All that being said, the supersized, gleaming silver clips looked pretty cool on the runway, and gave a retro-futuristic vibe, with the models wearing Matrix-style shades, sleek black suiting, leather and tweed pieces decked out with zippers, studs, and even chainmail.

But that wasn’t the only ’90s hair throwback on the New York runways: over at Prabal Gurung, comb headbands made a comeback. And we are here for it!

We love the subtle texture and pretty ballerina feel the headbands give the hair in the updos at Prabal Gurung.

When we wore comb headbands in the ’90s, we loved that they gave our fine hair (when worn down) some serious volume, by lifting it up at the root for a super subtle bombshell bouffant effect. While we’re on the fence about the claw clip comeback, we’re psyched to hit up our local Shoppers to score some Goody Classics Comb Headbands!

What about you?
