11 Fun Things to Do in Montréal This Summer

I love Montré©al. Every time I go to Montré©al I have the best time. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing, it’s just always so much fun. The beautiful old-world-meets-new-world streets bustling with beautiful French-speaking fashionistas means that even if you go with no plans and no direction, you’ll still enjoy yourself by the sheer fact of just being there. But, if you do want somewhat of a plan and a little bit of direction, try checking out one of these awesomely cool things to do in Montré©al this summer.

May 22 – October 2: Every Sunday, join thousands of people who aren’t quite ready to wind down their weekend at Picnic é‰lectronik, an outdoor electronic music event in Parc Jean-Drapeau.

June 8 – 12: If you love a good craft brew, definitely hit up the Mondial de la Bié¨re and sample countless different kinds of beer with tons of delicious food pairings.

June 9 – 18: The biggest francophone music festival, Les FrancoFolies, features over 1000 artists from around the world, with 250 shows (and 180 of them are free and outdoors!).

June 10 – 12: Have you got the need for speed? Head off to the races for the Grand Prix at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

June 29 – July 9: Definitely one of my favourite things about Montré©al is their jazz music scene. I went there one summer for a concert that just so happened to be on during the Festival International de Jazz de Montré©al and it was such an added bonus.

July 2 – 20: Who doesn’t love a good fireworks show?! L’International des Feux Loto-Qué©bec at Parc Jean-Drapeau promises some of the most dazzling displays you’ve ever seen, put on by artists from around the world. Events take place every Saturday and most Wednesdays.

July 13 – 31: Get your giggle on at Juste Poure Rire with shows featuring Jeff Ross, Hannibal Burress and more.

July 14 – August 2: Movie buffs should check out some screenings at the Fantasia International Film Festival and maybe even spot some celebs on the red carpet!

July 29 – 31: Ahh, Osheaga. What a fantastic music festival. I went the year that Eminem was headlining so that I could die a happy woman. This year’s headliners are Radiohead, Lana Del Ray and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers so if I manage to make it, I can die an ecstatic woman.

August 5 – 6: Although Osheaga is a well-rounded festival with all different genres of music, if you’re looking for some straight up EDM, head to the éŽLESONIQ music festival.

August 5 – 7: If you want to get your nerd on in Montré©al, go to the Otakuthon Festival d’anime for some cosplay fun.

And with EVERYTHING you might choose to do in Montré©al this summer, be sure to top it off with an infamous steamie from La Belle Province. I swear those hot dogs are worth the trip alone. May as well get a poutine while you’re at it. When in Rome, right?
