10 Reasons We’re Excited for Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones makes its Netflix series debut today. If you have no idea who Jessica is, or if you’re not excited enough for it, we’ve got the top ten reasons why we’re staying on the couch all weekend to binge watch it.

1 She’s Super Badass

Jessica Jones is a woman with super powers that gave up being a superhero to lay low as a private investigator. She’s got a rough, and dark past that will surely drive her storyline to new places Marvel hasn’t yet explored on TV. She’s tough¦really tough. We’re excited to see her do some major butt kicking.

2 Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter plays the title character, and you may recognize her as that girl with the jet black hair, and the bangs from Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and Breaking Bad. Ritter recently told People that she never would have imagined herself playing a superhero because of their costumes and storylines, but once she learned more about Jessica she knew she wanted to play her. After seeing her acting chops in Breaking Bad, we’re sure she’ll do an amazing job as Jessica.

3. David Tennant is in it

For fans of Doctor Who, David Tennant will soon re-appear on your computer screens as super-villain Kilgrave. Tennant’s character has the ability to command the wills of other people. We only see a short glimpse of his face in the trailer, but his haunting voice gets us excited.

4. The Trailer instantly hooked us

The trailer got us from the beginning . It teased just the kind of superhero Jessica is, and what she’s up against with Kilgrave. It’s a lot darker than you would expect from Marvel, but that’s because Jessica’s story is different from anything Marvel has ever done. The trailer leaves us with so many questions that we need answered now.

5. You can watch it all in one sitting

Cancel all of your weekend plans, because you’ll likely find yourself hanging out with your new best friend Jessica. Netflix releases entire series at once, which means you can hang out in your blanket burrito all weekend long. No regrets, just love.

6. Jessica’s BFF Trish Walker is also a Superhero

Trish Walker is a radio personality by day, and Hellcat by night. Racheal Taylor plays Trish, and her backstory is just as interesting as Jessica’s. Her inclusion in Jessica Jones means we’ll probably be seeing a lot more of her in Marvel’s future, which is sitting really well with female comic fans.

7. We Might Get More Female Superheroes

Jessica Jones opens the doors for more female superheroes to star in their own series and movies. Hopefully we will get more female representation in the comic world because as Elastigirl once said Leave the saving of the world to the men?…I don’t think so!

8. Netflix’s Daredevil was amazing

Netflix released their Daredevil series in the spring and it became an instant hit. If it’s anything like what Marvel and Netflix have collaborated on in the past, Jessica Jones will be just as awesome, if not better. There’s also a rumour going around that Daredevil might make an appearance in Jessica Jones. All the more reason to watch!

9. Most of the show’s crew is female

Three out of the four executive producers are women, as well as the show-runner, and many of the writers and directors. They’re the ones making a difference, and adding some much needed girl-power to the Marvel Comic Universe. Along with Jessica, and Trish, the show will also feature a gender-swapped Jeryn Hogarth, giving audiences another strong female to watch.

10. Jessica + Luke = 4ever

As well as fighting evil, and kicking butt, Jessica’s story will include love interest Luke Cage played by Mike Colter. There’s no doubt Ritter and Colter will create super steamy scenes together. The inclusion of Luke Cage means he too will get his own show in the future. The Marvel stream never ends.
