Wearing Metallics in Winter

Metallics are set to be another hit trend for this season, which may come to surprise many women who believe the shimmering material is intended only for summertime nights out and gala events. Wearing metallics during the day is enough of a challenge, yet when you throw in the additional challenge of sporting shiny silver during February, you may very well wind up with a fashion disaster!

However, it can be done, and done well, if you take the following tips for laid-back winter style into consideration:

Keep it simple:
A strappy gold party dress which you happened to pick up during the summer and haven’t had a chance to wear since can be worn these days also, as long as you accessorize it to be seasonally appropriate. Minimal accessories, clean makeup, and hair worn sleek and straight will help transform the dress into more of a chic daytime outfit as opposed to a formal look. Combine a metallic dress with black opaque tights, a pair of flat suede boots, and a flowing cardigan.

On accessories:
Your entire outfit doesn’t need to sparkle and gleam in the morning light for your look to be fashionable! If you wish to participate in the trend but don’t want to go overboard, go for a metallic handbag, a sequined top with silver accents, or a chain of gold collar-style necklaces worn over a comfy, solid-coloured knit sweater.

Colouring is key:
While bright colours will help transition us into the upcoming and much anticipated spring weather, metallic accessories and clothing are stylish and bold enough on their own to be worn against a basic black, white, or grey colour scheme.

Mix and match:
Feel free to experiment with this daring trend, and do combine metallic pieces with other fabrics which are more toned-down. The subtlety of dark denim, a classic blazer, or a white button-down blouse contrast with the highly dramatic nature of metallics.
