Top 10 Trends from Toronto Fashion Week for Spring 2015

Fashion Week in Toronto has just concluded and we kept our eyes on the runway to spot the latest trends to wear next spring. And with winter on its way, we need something to look forward to as the days get colder and nights considerably darker. Check out these 10 top spring trends from World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto.

Black and White

If there’s one colour combo that will never go out of fashion it is black and white. Always a winner on the runway and in the closet, Thomas Balint, Caitlin Power and Rachel Sin used this classic combo to keep spring looking fresh and so clean.

Brilliant Bomber

Versatile and comfortable the bomber jacket will be your outwear staple for spring 2015. Seen on the runway at the Mackage, Rudsak and SOIA & KYO shows, this athletic piece came in perforated leather, blended with wool and in a two-tone colour; a definite must-have garment to step up your fashion A-game next season.

From Dusk ‘til Dawn

Spring has sprung! Actually not yet, but on the runway at World MasterCard Fashion Week it did. We saw dusty shades and sunset hues adorning models from designers Hilary MacMillan, Elan & Castor and Sid Neigum, who was the winner of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Start Up Competition. We can't wait to adorn these wares once the weather warms up.

Killer Knits

If you think knit sweaters and shirts can only be worn in fall and winter then think again. We saw these cozy clothes making its way down the runway and we nearly had to restrain ourselves from taking it off the models then and there! Check out these killer knits from Malorie Urbanovitch, Elan+Castor and Brit Wacher.

Ocean Blue

If there ever was an “it” colour of the season blue would be, well, it. At fashion week the colour appeared in various shades; outerwear brand Mackage used it in royal hues in its leather coats, handbags and jackets, whereas Hayley Elsaesser and Melissa Nepton were drawn toward the lighter shade of the colour.

Positively Pleats

From big to small, pleats is still a popular fashion trend you’ll see on skirts, pants and dresses next season. Beaufille designers Chloe and Parris Gordon used the folded detail on a pair of cropped trousers, while Hilary MacMillan and Matthew Gallagher made pleats front and centre accentuating the female form.

Skirting Through

In addition to the bomber being the must-have item next spring add the A-line midi skirt to your shopping list. This style flatters all body types, creates drama when worn and looks great on, whether you’re wearing heels – check these images from Rudy Bois’s and Pink Tartan’s collections – or with sneakers as seen on Eliza Faulkner’s runway.

Tribal Tone

The runway at World MasterCard Fashion Week had its wild moments this season, thanks to tribal inspired prints found in three designers’ collections. When you see the frocks from BLACK.I, Laura Siegel and Melissa Nepton you’ll be swinging from the trees with glee just like we were.

Wonderful Whites

When you’re having a wardrobe meltdown and say to yourself “What am I going to wear?” Our advice is to opt for white. This neutral was seen in many designers’ collections at fashion week, from suits to separates and onesies, and anytime you want to dress to impress we guarantee wearing this colour will do the job. If you don’t believe us see these looks by Mikheal Kale, Narces, and Som Kong for inspiration.

Body Conscious

Speaking of onesies, body conscious clothes are back with a vengeance next spring. Beaufille, Caitlin Power and Vaiken had models decked out in cropped-tops, cut-outs and, of course, the onesie.
