One Celeb, Four Looks: Lily Collins

Thanks to her work in Mirror Mirror, young Lily Collins has set the fashion bar high. Knocking red carpet styles out of the park, she’s consistently hit on most of spring 2012‘s biggest trends. Here are four of our favourite Lily Collins looks and how you can apply them to your everyday wardrobe.

Look 1: Gold and black

Embracing the season’s infatuation with metallics, Lily Collins combines the classic ˜50s silhouette with spring 2012’s colder, structured aesthetic. Since most of the season’s biggest trends are softer and feminine, a traditional silhouette is needed if you’re going to hone in on spring’s fashion dark side. Interpret Lily Collins’ look yourself by pairing a black A-line skirt or cigarette pants with a peplum black and gold top and patent pumps.

Look 2: Bright and floral

Like every spring, florals maintain a big place in the season, and thanks to Lily Collins and this red carpet look, the striking effect of a bold print in a vivid colour does not go unnoticed. Balancing the dress’ low neckline with a formal skirt length and sweeping train, Lily lets the floral print stand out on its own, opting out of jewelry or dramatic makeup. If you don’t think the office would take to a floor-length dress lightly, opt for a neutral pencil skirt and pair with it a bright floral button-up and bright red lipstick.

Look 3: Lacy and feminine

It’s all about sheer in spring 2012, and Lily Collins succeeds in carrying off the hard-to-wear trend. Layering lace with a floral print underlay, she evokes a Victorian vibe, going hand-in-hand with the Downton Abbey effect “ especially through her striking updo that lets the gown’s high neckline speak for itself. By donning a lace blouse overtop of a silk camisole, you can channel Lily Collins’ MET ensemble on your own “ especially if you don a full skirt for a vintage-inspired look.

Look 4: Contrasting

The perfect way to tone down a formal outfit is to pair it with leather, and Lily Collins shows how to carry off the look with ease. Contrasting the vibrant purple dress with black pumps and a leather jacket, she hardens her ensemble’s otherwise delicate vibe. To do it yourself, wear a leather bomber or denim jacket with a pencil skirt and blouse or even a sundress, hardening an otherwise airy aesthetic, and making it nighttime appropriate.
