The Season of Cropping

You know, us fashion enthusiasts aren’t so different from Prince Farming and his rural co-workers. We too get up early (hair and make-up takes time). Our lives also revolve around the seasons. And we always look forward to the fresh crops of spring.

From runway to retail, a variety of cropped garments are thriving this season. Although exciting, it can be tough to know what’s wearable ” the wrong fit or buying into a fad isn’t fun. So we’re weeding out the not-so-good ones and highlighting the kinds that will keep you looking sartorially savvy.

Jackets

The shrunken jacket is spring’s favourite friend. It’s cropped, it’s cool and conservative enough for all ages. Opt for the classic jean or punky (p)leather. Thrift stores or your grandmother’s closet are excellent places to search.

Shorts

Sounds contradictory to have long shorts, but in the world of fashion, anything is possible. Swap those daisy dukes for a minimalist design that exhibits straight, lengthy legs (wide or trim will work). This longer length has a slightly old-school athletic vibe that will wear well with tunics.

Skirts

With some of the most influential designers manufacturing minis this season, we strongly support cropped skirts. As for the silhouette, aim for A-line, as body-con options can be too revealing. Fabrics that make the cut include everything from plastic to plaid.

Tops

crop top1

The crop top. One day it was passé© and the next it was in the windows of every H&M. Although there’s a massive crowd that lives and dies by it, there’s an equally large group that finds it tasteless. We believe, with the right fit, fabric, silhouette and coordinating separates, this piece is still relevant and worthy of a little more of our time.

Pants

cropped pants

Ankle pants were all the rage the last few seasons, but if you really want to up your style quotient try longer lengths in flare form. For those of you who have never sported this style but want to try, now’s the time. Start with a minimal flare in denim or a neutral trouser. Keep tops and accessories as clean as possible.

Hair

Cropped ˜dos aren’t common on the catwalk for SS15 (just like most seasons). Instead, fashion and beauty stylists focused on long locks and how they’d best accompany warm-weather clothes. Blossoming hair trends include ponies, waves, braids and cornrows.
