The Best of Toronto Fashion Week

World MasterCard Fashion Week is a wrap! This means, it is time to round up the best-of-the-best from last week’s Spring 2013 runway shows.

Which designers stood out?

What looks are we coveting?

Who had the best over-all show?

Check out our favourites from Toronto Fashion Week:

Best Use of Print: Pink Tartan

 Butterfly print

The pajama print is one of spring’s biggest trends. If you don’t know what it is, well, take a peek at this look from Pink Tartan. Print from head-to-toe! The butterflies made this outfit super dreamy and perfect for spring. If you’re not comfortable pulling off the full look, the blouse alone can be paired with skinny jeans for a casual style or a pencil skirt for the office.

Most Flattering: Allistyle

 Allistyle

Allistyle was Toronto Fashion Week’s first-ever plus size runway show. The one-year-old brand was created by Pam Shainhouse in memory of her daughter Alli Shapiro, whose stage four Hodgkin lymphoma, caused her to gain weight, making her clothing options limited. Alli’s dream was to have her own plus-size fashion line. When she passed away from cancer, her mother vowed to make her daughter’s dream a reality. We thought this look, modelled by America’s Next Top Model winner Whitney Thompson, from Allistyle’s spring line was very flattering for any body type, accentuating all the right areas.

The Veteran: Arthur Mendonca

 Anniversary

Arthur Mendonca’s spring 2013 runway show marked his 10th year at Toronto Fashion Week. We adored this kimono-inspired ensemble. The wide belts appeared with almost every outfit, giving each look a lovely silhouette.

The One-to-Watch: Ashtiani

Spring 2013 trends

We can see Toronto-based designer Golnaz Ashtiani going very far! Her looks were ultra-modern, showing that she’s got a good idea of what’s next. The line was inspired by the 1960s, but had a sportswear vibe. This look was our favourite from the show because of the colour blocking, choice of shades and stand-out shape.

Best Street Style Cred: Dreamboat Lucy

street style

Every fashionista needs a little Dreamboat Lucy in their lives. We loved all the looks from the designer duo from Prince Edward Island, especially the printed shorts and cut-out blouse from this outfit. This line is pretty, but with an edge. We’re down!

Best Comeback: Evan Biddell

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013

After a two-year absence, Evan Biddell returned to Toronto Fashion Week with guns blazing. After taking the time to think about his brand, he decided this season he wanted to make the collection more wearable. In the past his looks were always entertaining, but typically better suited for a supermodel with a calendar full of fabulous fashion parties. Without losing his signature edgy style, Biddell was able to pull-off a collection fit for any woman. We loved this Warhol-inspired dress!

Best Star Power: Express

Jessica Stam

The tents were buzzing with news that Canadian supermodel Jessica Stam would be walking in the Express show. It isn’t every day that a major American retailer shows at Toronto Fashion Week and you could feel the excitement. We loved this red flirty dress, which looked amazing on Stam. Can’t wait until the Express Eaton’s Center location opens up next month!

I Want It All: Joe Fresh

Fashion trends

There were too many looks we loved at Joe Fresh to decide on just one! The most exciting part of watching the Joe Fresh runway show was knowing that we could actually afford all of the pieces. It is a rare occurrence in fashion. There was a strong emphasis on metallics, black and white and hits of yellow.

Best Use of Colour: Lucian Matis

Colour trends

Yellow is the colour of Spring 2013! We actually gasped when this look came down the runway, just because it was so darn beautiful. The way the fabric reflected in the light was stunning and the earrings made it over-the-top wonderful. This is a definite must-have look for spring.

Sexiest Style: Mackage

sexy style

There is something seductive about leather, and the use of it in Mackage’s spring line was tres sexy! The little peek of the midriff, the structured jacket and tight-fit of the pencil skirt definitely turned heads with this looked modelled by Irina Lazareanu. We want some!

Most A-List Worthy: Pavoni

red carpet dresses

Awards season is around the corner and we expect to see these Pavoni looks on the red carpet! The collection was called Le Chateau de Versailles, inspired by France’s royal palace. We could very well see Kate Middleton in one of these jaw-dropping gowns on a trip to Paris with William on her arm. A girl can dream!
