Wearing Summer Florals for Fall 2011

So we all went a little overboard with the florals this summer (admit it). With florals popping up big and bright, tiny and 90’s inspired on everything from dresses to canvas sneakers, escaping the floral takeover was impossible. And really, why would you have wanted to? Summer is ready to wrap, and there’s no reason not to transition your summer florals into fall favourites. We’ve got the solutions to save your florals from falling off the map in a new season.

First, a great, long cardigan goes a long way. Because you can’t possibly have enough closet space to buy one in every colour, pick a neutral that you can work into your everyday cool-weather wardrobe. Black, grey, and taupe let your florals do all the work. A big chunky knit over a floral dress blends the best of polished and ultra-casual, while a slim fitting cardigan paired with a skinny belt keeps your layers looking slim and sleek.

Keep legs covered from the crisp air with tights. Draw from palette in your floral and be bottom-half bold with coloured or two-color tights, or opt for a sheer nude or black to play it safe. Retire sandals and ease your way into the weather with a big trend for Fall 2011 in a ‘smoking’ flat, or classic tasseled loafer. Still thinking you’ll have the chills? Do as the English countryside does and cover more leg with a two-toned riding boot. Translation? You’ve been autumn-ized.
