Spring 2012 Fashion: The Season’s Hottest Colours

The freshness of spring calls for a new start so instead of recycling the same old pallet, embrace the season’s hottest colours. With ultra-feminine tones taking over, 2012’s spectrum has broadened supremely. And with only a few pieces (in a few choice shades), you can take your wardrobe into spring through the season’s hottest colours.

Tangerine
While we saw orange appear last year, the brightness of tangerine is one of this season’s hottest colours. Worn as a focal point, designers like Vivienne Tam layered shade upon shade, while Jenny Packham and Marc Jacobs offered monochromatic dresses. Meant to be seen, tangerine works best solo, but you can pair it along sister shades (like dark yellow and red) if you’re not ready to stand out so much. You can also feature tangerine in a print like Dolce & Gabbana did in their A-line vegetable print dress. (Talk about retro.)

Bubblegum pink
Considering most of spring’s trends are quite feminine, it shouldn’t be shocking that bubblegum pink is one of the season’s hottest colours. Worn as delicately as the colour suggests, collections by ADAM, Jason Wu and Cushnie et Ochs featured the shade on skirts and in dresses. But if you want to wear the colour without being overly girly, pick up cigarette pants in a dulled version of the tone. Showcased in Zara’s spring collection, you can pair it with a white button-up or even a black sweater “ just avoid a 1950s-era jacket unless you want to look like a Pink Lady.

Pistachio
Seen first on nails, pistachio “ one of the season’s hottest colours “ is essential for completing your spring 2012 wardrobe. Featured in Georges Hobeika’s Couture collection, the shade became a formal must-have, with pieces by Jenny Packham maintaining pistachio’s momentum. But rest assured that this colour can be toned down: worn on nails, you can embrace one of the season’s hottest colours, particularly if it’s paired with a pastel ensemble. You can also wear it as sheer button-up or as coloured denim, to further propel the trend.
