Five Ways to Wake up Prettier

How’s a girl on-the-go supposed to squeeze in her beauty sleep and wake up looking refreshed? While we may not be able to follow the recommended eight-hour-a-day-rule every night, there are other ways to appear well-rested each morning:

1) Reduce the bloat.
One of the worst feelings a gal can have is waking up to start her morning fresh, only to feel like an inflated balloon before the day has begun. While we all dread the hazy-morning bulge, it doesn’t mean someone fed us in our sleep. Hallelujah! We just didn’t consume enough water the night before. While we’re supposed to drink an average of eight glasses of water a day, this is especially important in the evening. If not, we’ll wake up as puffy as our pillow. Keep in mind: herbal tea also counts toward your daily water-intake.

2) Poof away puffiness.
Our stomaches aren’t the only feature that can look puffy in the morning. Don’t we all love waking up with swollen-esque eyes, too? Anti-bag creams aren’t always as effect as we’d hope. What if we told you it’s all in the way you prop your pillow? If our pillow is too flat, our tissue fluid won’t drain properly and we’ll have build-up around the eyes. The solution: stack a few cushions on top of one another to give your head more leverage.

3) Condition your roots.
Snoozing on its own has its advantages. We actually benefit from being motionless. The reason? We’re able to keep products in our hair for an extended period of time. Take advantage of your shuteye, and apply an overnight hair conditioning serum onto your locks (we recommend using Sephora’s Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Overnight Hair Rescue.) This product repairs and replenishes hair overnight and prevents future breakage. It’s conditioners like these that give new meaning to the phrase ˜beauty sleep’.

4) Snooze on silk.
Believe it or not, the type of pillowcase we rest our head on will affect our complexion. A pillow’s golden rule? Choose silk over cotton. When we sleep on cotton, our face is cemented into our pillow, producing sleep wrinkles. Turns out they aint’ temporary either, and can worsen the appearance of existing creases. Yikes! On the other hand, silk is softer on the skin, which helps keep wrinkles at bay. Silk will also keep your hair silky smooth (yay to no bird’s nest-like knots!) Pst –  Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet swear by them.

5) Switch em’ up.
We already revealed that sleeping on silk is a godsend for bed-heads, but you still don’t want to sleep on the same pillowcase for nights on end. Try switching up your pillowcase every couple of days (or give them a thorough wash!) to swat off bacteria and avoid acne flare-ups. Experts also recommend reducing alcohol intake at night. The short answer? Alcohol makes you sweat, which can bleed onto your pillowcases and clog your pores. Yet another reason to wash ˜em on a regular basis.

Silk pillowcases DO make a difference, I was a doubter and now I believe! Worth the investment in reduced hair frizz and ‘pillow face’ lines alone, I even got another for when one is in the wash.
