Should You Make the First Move?

Even the most brazen women sometimes wonder if it’s best to keep a demure game face in dating, or if they should let down their guard and act on their instincts. Maybe your date is waiting for the right time to make his move, or maybe he’s just too shy. If no one makes the first move, you’ll never know what you might be missing. Then, you both lose. Here are some circumstances in which you should make the first move.

If he’s shy
If he’s indicated through conversations about his relationships “ romantic or not, that he tends to play a more submissive role, he’ll probably be more comfortable with you taking the reins. Also, if he’s been hurt in the past or has insecurity issues, then he may require total confidence going in for the kiss, which could take time. You could speed up the process a little, and he’ll likely appreciate your resolve.

If all physical contact is reciprocated
Body language can speak volumes. When we like someone, we tend to mirror their actions. Especially when they touch us, it’s likely that we’ll return that touch a few minutes later. If it’s all you can do to keep your hands off each other, then make your move.

If he’s too polite
Be perceptive to how he acts around other people in social situations. Does he chat confidently with everyone around him, even people he doesn’t know, or is he more subdued and polite? If he’s shown that he only opens up and becomes animated around his friends, he might be reluctant to put himself out there with someone new. On the other hand, if you know him to go to whatever lengths to get what he wants, then give him some time “ he could have a grand scheme he’s waiting to put into action.

If you’re at a make or break point in the relationship
If you’ve reached that critical point where you feel like the relationship has to either progress or not, then you should go for it. There’s no sense in driving yourself bonkers – no one is worth that.

If your instincts tell you it’s right
Above all, you should feel confident and natural if you’re going to make the first move. If you’re really worried about it, ask yourself why it doesn’t feel 100 percent right. It helps to be honest with yourself about your motives. If the reason you want to make the first move is to prove something to yourself or you’re trying to rush things “ then no matter what, it won’t feel right. If it’s truly the right thing to do, then you won’t be losing any sleep about it.
