Things We Didn’t Know We Needed: Rihanna and Adam Driver to Star in Musical

I had no idea how much I needed this news until I heard it and felt purpose in my life once more: Rihanna and Adam Driver are set to star in the upcoming film, Annettea few months after the movie was announced (back in November).

According to Variety, Annette is the story of a stand-up comedian whose opera singer wife is dead. And in the wake of her death, he finds out their two-year-old has a “surprising talent.” (Imagine Rihanna played the two-year-old.) (I mean, I know she doesn’t, but that would also be a movie I would 100% watch.)

The movie will be written by Sparks (yes, the band), and will be directed by French director Leos Carax (“Holy Motors”), which will be Carax’s English-speaking feature film debut. It’s been picked up by Amazon, too, so maybe we can all just hang out together and watch it I mean why not.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Rihanna’s been on the big screen (see: Battleship). But yesterday, new promo shots of Ri’s upcoming turn on Bates Motel turned up, in which she plays the ill-fated Marion Crane. (Those of who who’ve seen Psycho know exactly how that turns out.)

Also, it’s been a big week for Rihanna, both with this news (the biggest news, according to me) and news that she’d landed her 22nd top 5 single with “Love on the Brain,” officially surpassing Elvis Presley.  The only artists with more? The Beatles, Madonna, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson. Which, as far as I’m concerned, will all be beat by Ri-Ri, thank you very much.
