Starbucks is Launching a Unicorn Frappuccino (Yes, Really)

It seems as though our generation’s obsession with unicorns and mermaids is nowhere near coming to an end because this week Starbucks announced the release of its limited edition Unicorn Frappuccino and, no, this is not a joke.

According to Starbucks, the Unicorn Frappuccino, “is made with a sweet dusting of pink powder, blended into a cré¨me Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping.” As someone who worked at Starbucks for five years (I still have night terrors about working Frappy Hour), I can already tell you that this is going to be a nightmare to make and since Instagram loves all things #unicorn, give yourself enough time to go stand in line and then photograph your Frap along with the gaggle of fellow Bux-goers and then start raking in the likes.

Starbucks also explains that there’s a #magical component to this drink (of course): “Like its mythical namesake, the Unicorn Frappuccino comes with a bit of magic, starting as a purple beverage with swirls of blue and a first taste that is sweet and fruity. But give it a stir and its color changes to pink, and the flavor evolves to tangy and tart. The more swirl, the more the beverage’s color and flavors transform.” So, there you go. Magical unicorns for us all!

The cold blended beverage will be available at select Starbucks locations across Canada and the U.S. starting tomorrow, April 19, until April 23. Because unicorns are mythical beings and they can’t be held in captivity too long, or all the twentysomethings with escapism issues will lose their shit. Our only hope is that Starbucks keeps the magic going and releases a mermaid-inspired beverage just in time for beach season. (PS: You should really watch Iliza Shlesinger’s bit on mermaids in her recent Netflix comedy special, Confirmed Kills — it’s hilarious/way too accurate.)

(I should take this opportunity to note that I am also one of these twentysomethings with escapism issues, I am just very self-aware, mmkay?)

Will you be trying out the new Unicorn Frappuccino? Yeah, us too.
