Rihanna Thinks Princess Diana Was a “Style Gangster”

Can we please just take a minute and bask in the glory of knowing that Rihanna maybe owns as many Princess Diana commemorative plates and mugs as I do? "Anne, where is this coming from?" you ask. "You sound terrifying and very weird." Well, allow me, friends and lovers: Rihanna has cited Princess Diana as her style icon.

"Whaaaaaaat?" you ask.

Correct. In an interview with Glamour, the singer described the late royal as a "style gangster" which I'm pretty sure is one of the greatest compliments to ever exist.

"She was like — she killed it," she said. "Every look was right. She was gangsta with her clothes. She had these crazy hats. She got oversize jackets. I loved everything she wore."

Same, Rihanna. SAME.

She then went on to talk about her mom's style, and how it influenced her.

"I used to watch her get dressed," she said. "She was around my age right now, and she was so fly. So fly."

I love this interview. This is actually all I've read from it, but what I have read, I obviously like. And she's got a point about Princess Diana: we've gotten to the point where early '80s style (when Diana married Charles) is back in full force, while the rest of the decade is also being represented this season through oversize blazers and preppy styles. Also, am I wrong, or have we finally hit that point where "anything goes" when it comes to fashion? And if you adopt that mindset and look at Princess Diana's jeans, hats, coats, etc., she really is everything Rihanna describes.

So Rihanna, here is the question: would you like to hang out with me and shop for commemorative plates?
