Khloe and Lamar Premieres on E!

Lamar Odom is definitely keeping up with the Kardashians.

He may be a new addition to the family, but it seems he’s bringing plenty of his own drama into the mix.

The couple’s new reality show Khloe & Lamar premiered on E! last night, and surprisingly, focused more on Lamar’s troubles than Khloe’s.

It’s a clever PR move if nothing else “ Keeping Up With the Kardashians attracts over four million viewers. The overlap of Kardashian fans tuning in to their latest spin-off naturally don’t want to see the same old content.

And Lamar provided plenty of fodder. His turbulent relationship with his father, Joe Odom, was the centre of the episode.

Khloe had never met Lamar’s dad, Joe Odom before, but on last night’s episode he showed up unannounced to one of her book signings. Odom said he just wanted to meet her and asked if it would be possible to get tickets to a few of Lamar’s games to show his support.

Khloe admitted that she wanted to try to push Lamar to reconcile with his dad (partially because her own father died in 2003), but gains a bit of perspective after Lamar finds out about their surprise meeting.

Lamar tells Khloe his dad is a heroin addict and shares a bit of the impact it had on his childhood after his mother died of colon cancer when he was 12.

To demonstrate his real relationship with his dad Lamar calls him while Khloe listens in.

The short conversation revolves about Joe trying to guilt Lamar into giving him more money. First claiming he needed a haircut, then groceries, then sneakers “ despite the fact that Lamar already pays Joe’s rent and gives him an allowance.

Then there was Lamar’s career pressure.

As we all know by now (since it was in February), Lamar didn’t get voted into the 2011 Los Angeles All-star game.

Fans had to vote players into the game and Khloe devotedly urged friends, family and her ever-expanding Twitter following into voting for Lamar. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.

But Lamar’s maturity was tested in a bizarre twist when Khloe’s younger brother, Rob (who lives with the couple), got voted on to the All-star’s celebrity team alongside stars like Justin Bieber and Trey Songz.

Lamar continues his what a good guy streak (which is evident throughout the episode) by showing up the watch Rob play at the end of the episode. Aww.

A sneak peek of the season promises brewing rivalries between Khloe, Rob and Lamar’s best friend Jamie, who are all vying to be the centre of Lamar’s attention. Meanwhile, Khloe’s relationship with her best friend and personal assistant Malika gets tested when she gets flirtatiously close to Rob.

If Khloe and Lamar can keep up with the groundwork they laid down in last night’s premiere, the show’s well on its way to becoming a staple in the Kardashian empire.
