Grammy Awards Weekend Begins

It’s Grammy weekend and the prestigious music awards show seems like it’s either going to be the best show of the year, or a hot mess.

Airing tomorrow night, the Grammy Awards has already seen its fair share of drama. Rihanna, who is performing “Say my Name” with Drake,  is sick, but that didn’t stop her from rehearsing.

“Bronchitis and laryngitis boo! I’m still goin to rehearsals tho! Sunday is everything,” she tweeted.

Bronchitis and laryngitis does not sound fun. With that kind of mess going on in her throat, she can’t possible sound very good while she’s singing live (does she ever though?). She even pulled out of a performance on Thursday night and Cee Lo Green happily took her place.

The Rihanna drama continues this Grammy weekend as it marks two years since Chris Brown basically beat the crap out of her after a pre-Grammy party. Perhaps in an effort to put the drama behind her, Rihanna has agreed to lift the restraining order, allowing Chris to attend awards shows and other industry events that she happens to be at.

Tomorrow night’s awards show is also going to feature a pretty grand tribute to Aretha Franklin. Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), Martina McBride, Yolanda Adams and Christina Aguilera will all be singing a medley of Aretha’s classics. Christina Aguilera was just recently added to that roster and after her Super Bowl fumble last week (who really forgets the lyrics to the national anthem?), some people are not too pleased with this addition.

Let’s face it. Christina is no longer relevant. She hasn’t put out a decent album since 2002, and now she’s on the road to a Britney-esque meltdown after she split from her husband. She really doesn’t need to be performing at the Grammy’s.

In much better news for the awards show, it was just announced that Eminem (who is nominated for 10 awards!) will be joined on stage by none other than Dr. Dre! It’s going to be what I predict is the best performance of the night! To top off this already amazing performance, Adam Levine, Maroon 5’s front man, will also be joining them on stage. Basically, it’s going to be a performance to remember.

In addition to the artists above, the other performances will be by Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons, Avett Brothers, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Barbra Streisand, Mick Jagger, Justin Bieber, Usher, Jaden Smith, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green, and Gwyneth Paltrow. That’s one eclectic group of performers.

The Grammy Awards will air tomorrow night on CBS at 8pm EST.
