“Anna Karenina” Inspires Collection

Joe Wright’s “Anna Karenina” is gearing up to be one of THE movies of the year, so clearly Banana Republic had to stake its claim on the fashion market.

The chain responsible for “Mad Men” collections of the past couple years will be launching the “Anna Karenina” collection on October 31, which has been designed by the film’s Academy Award-winning costume designer, Jacqueline Durran.

Combining the romantic, European aesthetic of the film with modern-day fashion, “Anna Karenina” for Banana Republic boasts pieces adorned with velvet, faux fur, and even sparkles. Durran worked with the brand’s Creative Director and Executive Vice President of Design, Simon Kneen, and the two came down to just over 75 pieces that would constitute the collection.

The pieces include — but aren’t limited to — faux fur stoles, scarves and gloves, pearl and crystal jewellery, a black lace dress, a black wool cape, and feather hair accessories (for women), while men have their choice of top coats, and slim-fitting jackets and pants.

So get lined up, Banana Republic and/or film aficionados! Or at the very least, add a pair of gloves to your wishlist (and then buy them in two weeks).
