Tutorials: The Best Makeup Looks from WMCFW

Toronto Fashion Week has come to an end and I’m still buzzing from all the excitement. Hanging out backstage and watching the Maybelline team prep the models for all 36 shows was a whirlwind. This season we saw a few beauty trends emerge, like the wind burn look (rosy cheeks from being in the cold too long), nude lips, and lightened brows. Below are my favourite looks from the week, along with a few steps using Maybelline products on how to achieve them yourself.

Pink Tartan F/W 2014

It seems that the polar vortex has influenced more than just our outerwear; for Pink Tartan, Maybelline New York Lead Artist, Grace Lee, wanted the girls to look as if they’d just come in from the cold.

Step 1: Prep skin with Maybelline New York Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser,

Step 2: Apply Dream Fresh BB Cream all over face and then add Bouncy Blush in Pink Plum to the lower cheeks to mimic flushed, cold skin.

Step 3: For the eyes, mix Baby Lips and Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Too Cool for an icy veil of shimmer.

Step 4: Grace layered Volum’ Express The Rocket and Pumped Up! Colossal – her two favourites – for some serious volume.

Step 5: Finish the look with one of The Buffs nude lipsticks – each model’s shade was chosen to match her natural lip colour.

Taking cues from the antique family photos that inspired the collection, Grace wanted the makeup to recall the sepia and vanilla tones of those portraits.

Step 1: Start with a light shade of Dream Fresh BB Cream to make the skin pale and creamy.

Step 2: Lighten dark brows with concealer and highlight the lids with Expertwear Eyeshadow in Vanilla and Baby Lips in Quenched.

Step 3: For the lips, combine SuperStay 14HR lipstick in Wine and Forever with Crayon Kohl Liner by Color Show in Ultra Black.

When creating this look, Grace envisioned "the kind of girl who would hang out with the Rolling Stones."

Step 1: Create a rocker chic smokey eye by lining the inner rims with Crayon Kohl Liner by Color Show in Ultra Black before blending it across the lids.

Step 2: Top the lids with ExpertWear Eyeshadows in Made for Mocha and Tastefully Taupe along with a layer of Baby Lips in Quenched to create a sheer wash of colour.

Step 3: Lashes were coated with Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara.

Step 4: Brows got the Cara Delevigne treatment with Define-a-Brow eyebrow pencil and clear Great Lash mascara.

Step 5: For the final touch, Grace painted The Buffs by ColorSensational lipstick in Nude Lust onto lips.
