Simplifying Your Makeup Bag

Look into your makeup bag right now. Go ahead, look. What do you see? Chances are if you’re like the average woman, you probably have three different shades of foundation, five different shades of lip gloss and a countless number of mascara tubes. And although it may seem necessary to have 20 make-up products in your bag, you only really need five. Here are the five top make-up products to have in your beauty bag that will complete your look and help your simplify your beauty routine.

1. Foundation
A clear face is like a canvas; therefore your foundation should be the perfect base. Whether you opt for a pressed powder, liquid or dual foundation, foundation should always be a part of your beauty bag. It is also important to find a foundation that fits with your skin type“ this way you get all the coverage you need with just one product.

2. Concealer
It has been called the secret weapon against dark circles, so it only makes sense to include it as an essential beauty necessity. Professional make-up artists love using concealer because it plays various roles. The number one rule when it comes to choosing a concealer is to choose a color that is one shade lighter than your skin tone. This ensures bright, even skin that looks renewed and refreshed.

3. Blush
Blush is like the crayon in your make-up bag; it can give you the desired amount of color on your face and it can take a simple, casual look to a sophisticated, elegant look. Invest in a mini-palette that has two or more blushes, that way no matter where you are or what you’re wearing, you’ll have a choice to suit how your feeling.

4. Mascara
Mascara is often dubbed as one of the most important beauty products to have since it is going on the part of your face that everybody looks at “ your eyes. The best type of mascara is one that is waterproof, smudge-free and ideally a smaller to medium sized wand (this ensures that every lash gets stroked).

5. Lipstick
Not lip-gloss or lip stain, just lipstick. Of course it o.k. to wear lip gloss for more casual looks, but investing in a strong pigmented colored lipstick can add a little (or a lot) of spice instantly to your face and make you feel confident.

If you already have all these products in your bag, but yet for some reason it still won’t close, here are some tips to help you de-clutter the mess:

Get rid of duplicates. There is no need to have two mascara’s no matter how much you like to have another one for just in case emergencies. Find one product that does everything for you.

Throw out your finished beauty products right away. Don’t bother trying to get that little bit of gloss at the bottom of the tube, it won’t come out. When it’s done, it’s done.

Always check the expiry date on the back, or label of the product. If its reached it time, it’s time to let go.

Create specific make-up sets. If you like to have many choices or just a specific look, organize your make-up ahead of time. That way you can transfer the set you want in and out of your bag.

Give yourself a limit. Every woman is different, so give yourself a limit to how many products you NEED in your bag.  Try not to go over more than 10 products.
