We’re more than a little bummed that Pretty Little Liars will soon come to an end (one episode left! We are in no way emotionally ready for next week’s finale). Lucky for us, resident ‘Liar’ Shay Mitchell (who was in Toronto recently for the iHeartRadio MuchMusic Video Awards) was game to chat with 29Secrets about PLL and all things beauty. Here, she reveals her skin secrets, how she always looks like an otherworldly goddess, which ‘Liar’ she most identifies with, and more.
What are your must-have desert-island beauty products (could be makeup, fragrance, skincare)? And why are they your faves?
Shay: I would say lip balm, the Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser and mascara…I’d be set, assuming I would have a nice tan from being stranded on an island 😉
What does your skincare routine look like?
I use the Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser morning AND night to be sure that no leftover makeup lingers on my skin. Taking your makeup off and washing your face before bed is KEY. A few times a week, I will use the Bioré Charcoal Pore Strips or the one minute self-heating mask as well, followed by some moisturizer and under eye cream.
Have you picked up any amazing beauty tips from makeup artists you’ve worked with?
Hmm, I did learn that if you want lighter coverage you can mix some full coverage foundation with your moisturizer and just use that for a more natural look!
If you were a Pretty Little Liar in real life, whose character would you most identify with?
Probably Hanna because of her wardrobe 😉
What is your signature night-out beauty look?
Black denim, heels, a body suit and a jean jacket is always a favourite look of mine.
You’ve been an ambassador for Bioré for a while now. What have you learned about taking care of your skin?
While I have been an ambassador for quite a bit now, I have been a fan and customer for probably over 10 years, so I have always loved what the Bioré products do to my skin. I have learned that its okay to mix it up when it comes to unique ingredients in skin care and not to be afraid of something like baking soda or charcoal!
What about diet and fitness – what does your weekly regimen look like? And are you strict with your diet?
I’m not strict when it comes to diet because if I want the slice of pizza, I will have the slice of pizza…i’ll just work harder in the gym that day for it 🙂 Ideally, I eat pretty clean and love to work out at least four times a week.
What is your favourite indulgence?
PIZZA and pasta!
The PLL ladies all seem very close on the show, and off-set as well. Now that the show is (almost) over, will you stay good friends?
Yes, we are all family and I am absolutely confident that we will remain good friends for the rest of our lives.
Do you have any tricks for taking the best selfie?
Find the best natural light, usually in front of a window, use a nice high angle and take about 70 photos…one of them is bound to work!
