Natural Skin Remedies

Looking for an alternative to shelling out big bucks for pricey skin products? Look no further with these five natural skin remedies for all of your skin issues.

Dull Skin
If your skin is feeling dull this winter, try this simple body scrub recipe to revitalize and exfoliate. You’ll need the following:

1 Tbsp of organic honey
1 Tbsp of oil (ie: coconut or Argan oil)
½ Cup of organic brown sugar
¼ tsp. of fresh lemon juice

Mix all ingredients together until forming a gritty paste-type substance. Apply to dampened skin and rub in a circular motion. Keep away from your face (especially your eyes, ouch!). Rinse off with warm water and pat skin dry. Voila– freshly exfoliated skin.

Dry Skin
During these winter months, dry skin can be an issue. Make your own moisterizer by mixing the following:

¼ Cup of oil (can be olive or coconut oil)
1 Tbsp of finely ground organic oatmeal
1 teaspoon of rosewater (for aroma)
2 inches of aloe plant, skinned and pureed.

Mix all products together in a food processor and apply to dry or weathered skin. If you want your moisturizer to last longer, add in powered vitamin C powder, as the citric acid will preserve it for longer.

Pimples and blemishes
The holidays can be a stressful time, as well as a time when you are eating an excess of rich foods and consuming alcohol, all acne-prone elements, so you may notice a pimple or two popping up to say hello. Battle unwanted blemishes by applying the following to your face:

Organic cinnamon powder
Organic honey

Mix a 1:3 ration of the two and apply to your face (avoid your eyes) and leave on for as long as possible. Rinse with warm water. The cinnamon will act as an acne fighting agent, while the honey will lock in your natural glow.

Glowing Skin
Maybe the easiest and most accessible natural skin remedy, pour half a cup of organic olive oil into a running bath. Soak in bath, and pat skin dry. The oil will add extra shine and show off that all-inclusive tan. Just be sure not to dunk your head under water. If you do wet your hair, make sure to shampoo and condition the following day to avoid be a grease monster.

Fresh Faced
To look fresh-faced is as simple as a cucumber. Well, half a cucumber actually. Puree on half of an organic cucumber and mix with one teaspoon of plain organic yoghurt. Do not use fruit yoghurt. Apply evenly to face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and enjoy your fresh face feeling.
