How to Hide a Holiday Hangover

During the holiday season, weekday parties are a given, meaning that inevitably, at some point, you’ll wind up having to head into the office feeling a little worse for wear after a night of swigging back festively-coloured cocktails. If you end up enjoying your staff party just a little too much this year, we’ve got the cheat-sheet to keep your hangover under wraps.

Smell like roses.
Remember, a night of drinking doesn’t just leave your breath smelling distinctly boozy “ the alcohol will actually come out in your sweat. So that means that showering is a must (although we hope that goes without saying), plus a generous amount of deodorant and a nice perfume to help cover your tracks.

Medicate.
If you’re feeling really beat, popping a couple aspirin won’t only help your headache “ it’ll also act as an inflammatory for your face.

Stay hydrated.
This doesn’t just mean drinking tons of water (although that’s always a good idea). After a night out, dehydration will show through lacklustre skin. Use a nice thick moisturizing cream and a soothing lip balm to give your skin a healthy glow. If your complexion is looking flaky, make sure to exfoliate gently when you wash your face, so that the moisturizer has a chance to sink in properly.

Cool down.
If you’ve got that puffy look, run a washcloth under the cold tap and use as a compress to bring down the blood vessels in your face. If it’s just the eye area that’s looking a little swollen, try the old spoon-in-the-fridge trick (not the freezer!).

Think Pink.
If you look more pale or ashy than usual, it’s a dead giveaway that you’ve had too little sleep and too much vodka. Use foundation to give your complexion some life, and make sure to sweep on a liberal amount of pink-toned blush.

Go Light.
Steer clear of dark eye makeup. If you’ve got dark circles or bloodshot eyes, distinct makeup is just going to draw attention to the problem. Instead, use an eyelash curler and a bit of champagne or taupe eyeshadow to look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Spritz and repeat.
Take along a lightly-scented facial spray for the day. It will help to give your face a quick hydrating recharge, keep you smelling fresh, and help clear your head, too.
