Get the Ultimate #HairGoals With This At-Home Hair Colour

Pastel, rainbow, unicorn-approved hair has been a hit for some time now, but it usually involves hours spent in the salon to achieve the perfect purple hue or peach shade. Of course, while we’ll never quite be able to replace our go-to stylist for certain things, now colourful hair is easier to achieve at home than ever with the new L’Oréal Paris Colorista.

L’Oréal Paris Colorista is a one-step semi-permanent hair colour that comes in shades for both blondes and brunettes. The creamy, easy-to-use formula washes out in four to 10 washes, which means that you get the colour payout of a bona fide unicorn, but it allows you to play and change up your look.

Eleven shades grace the line, from peach to pink to aqua and teal and burgundy. The creamy formula lets you switch up your look, whether you prefer some colourful highlights or are craving an all-over dramatic switch. The pre-mixed shades come packed in a vegan ammonia- and peroxide-free formula that is loaded with ceramides so you get the colour payout you crave without sacrificing the strength, shine and health of your strands.

So, how do you use it? If you’re starting with a deeper base (like me), you have a couple of options: You can either pre-lighten your strands using the L’Oréal Colorista Bleach or you can choose one of the brunette-specific shades to rock, like #Teal10, #Burgundy20, #Red30 or #Tangerine40. If you’re rocking the ultra-dark tresses, if you want visible colour payout, you’ll have to lighten your strands first.

If you’ve already got some highlighted pieces or are still rocking your balayage or ombré, you can reach for one of the blonde approved lighter shades for a subtle touch of colour, like with #Pink200 or #Peach100.

After you’ve washed and dried your hair, work your selected colour through your hair, using either your hands or the brush that comes with your colour—of course, unless you want your palms to match your mane, make sure you put gloves on. Pick highlighted pieces, touch up your ombré or go all-over with your colour—whichever you choose—and leave on for at least 15 minutes depending on how light your base is and how vibrant you want your colour—just be sure to consult the specific timing on the box first. After that no shampoo required—just rinse out, dry and get ready to rock your new unicorn mane!

So, which one are you going to try first?

(Psst! Want to win some of these shades? We’re giving away nine of them over here!)

L’Oréal Paris Colorista semi-permanent hair colours are $15 each and are available online and at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide.
