Eat Your Way to Great Skin and Hair

We’ve heard it over and over again: what we put into our bodies has an impact on how we look and feel. Beyond suggesting to drink your weight in water, reducing your salt and sugar intake, and not relying on caffeine to help you survive, we’ve got three easy (and yummy) foods to take in that will have your skin looking feeling like a million bucks.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes have tons of lycopene, a super anti-oxidant for extra UV protection. “They help fight sun damage” says Dr. Jessica Wu, dermatologist and author of Feed Your Face. Wu suggests incorporating tomatoes into at least one meal per day to help protect your skin from aging, freckles, and sun spots. Dr. Wu suggests making your own pizza with a thin whole wheat crust, tomato paste, tons of fresh tomatoes, and a little bit of cheese and seasoning.

Spinach

Popeye may have been right about spinach being good for keeping you strong and energetic, but we can’t help but wonder if he also was using it for reducing acne. Vitamin A and zinc are built to help keep your acne in check. To keep your eyes bright (and healthy), spinach is a great source of lutein. Swapping your lettuce for spinach makes for the the perfect side salad.

Almonds

Go nutty for this tasty snack. Vitamin E moisturizes dry skin, and keeps your face hydrated. Antioxidants in this delicious nut protect against the harsh effects of summer weather. There is also evidence to suggest that almonds help keep cholesterol levels low. Almonds are packed with magnesium which is essential for healthy hair, as magnesium deficiencies are linked to hair loss. Buy them in bulk to save funds, and take a small ziplock bag along with you in your purse. Instant energy and skin hydration? Perfect.
