Desert Island Style: Marjorie Roux, PR Director, Sephora

What are the essentials that make up your beauty or style profile? In this new series, we ask our coolest girlfriends about the things they’d choose to take with them if they were going to be stranded on a desert island forevermore. With no hope of rescue and the only guarantee being that their picks will be replenished once they run out, our would-be islanders share the holy grail products that they’d stick to till the very end of time.

Islander in question: Marjorie Roux, PR Director, Sephora

Current home base: My heart beats in Montreal, but I travel to Toronto pretty often for work “ love the city.

How would you describe your personal style?
I would say it’s pretty eclectic and can change with my mood. I love a minimalist look, but can, out of the blue, decide to go for something bold and vibrant. But in the end, whatever I buy or wear needs to be practical, comfortable and adaptable.

What are some fashion brands that you’re really into right now?
I love Cos. I always find pieces of clothing or accessories that look great with pretty much anything and definitely make an impression. Tavan & Mitto is also in my Top 3, especially since the launch of their  capsule collections. From the grey and monochrome perfect wool cape, to the revisited white shirt or the black trench, the cuts are on point and the pieces timeless.

When it comes to accessories, I am constantly searching for the perfect bag or weekender but am rarely able to find what I am looking for. I did recently visit a good friend of mine and she introduced me to Bouquet, her amazing little shop and atelier in the Mile End where you can make your own leather bag. Mine is being made as we speak!

You’re trapped on a desert island and you can only take 5 items with you. What do you pick?

  • White tee shirt (oversized so it can also be a dress if need be; would probably be by Acne Studios)
  • Sunglasses (white Moscot) because you know, shades are everything and the perfect outfit accessory
  • Black simple Cap (Cos) to protect me from the sun (and occasionally hide my hair if it was becoming too long, with no barber or scissors and all)
  • Sneakers (Adidas or Vans) because I wear them everyday with EVERYTHING and in case I had to wake up in the middle of the night and run from weird island creatures
  • SPF 50 because I have become slightly obsessed with SPF lately

What is your perspective on skincare and beauty?
For me, flawless (and hydrated) skin is the BEST canvas. I’m lucky to be able to try a lot of skincare products on a daily basis as part of my job and have a few can’t live without products that I keep buying over and over. You can buy the best makeup in town, but if your skin is not prepped or taken care of, it just won’t work (or last all day), guaranteed.

Don’t get me wrong, as much as I love putting on makeup (at work, events or for special occasions), I also love going makeup-free on the weekend and just layering skincare (okay, maybe mixing in a touch of highlighter to my moisturizer).

What makeup/skincare brands are you really into at the moment and why?
This is a tough one — there’s just SO many but at the moment, but my go-to brands are (in no particular order):

What are your 5 must-have skincare or makeup items?

DRUNK ELEPHANT C-Firmaâ„¢ Day Serum

Drunk Elephant C-Firmaâ„¢ Day Serum. Game-changing serum. It gives your skin that instant vibrant and luminous glow. Bonus? It’s filled with antioxidants. I literally use it every day before my moisturizer. Also for anyone that suffers from redness (like me), this serum does the trick.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil. I have always loved sleeping oils, but was a bit scared to use Retinols on my sensitive skin. This one actually calms and smooths my skin while working on plumpness, wrinkles, redness, and pores. I layer it with Good Genes All-In One Lactic Acid Treatment twice a week.

SEPHORA COLLECTION
PRO Buffing Brush #70

Sephora Collection PRO Buffing Brush #70. Holy grail foundation brush. I have always applied my foundation with my fingers in the past because I thought it was faster and I could put it all over at once (I know¦.) ¦then I tried this brush and it changed my foundation routine (+ I made all my friends buy it). It is super soft and made so that you can build on the areas that need a bit more coverage, and in the end, gives you that airbrushed flawless foundation look.

IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. Where to start with this one¦.it is basically an all-in-one cream. I’m obsessed with the texture, it melts into the skin while providing full coverage too. It has SPF 50, is anti-aging (infused with anti-aging serum made of hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants) and bonus… gives you that to die for glow. I also add a touch of BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector® Liquid Highlighter on the weekend when I want to go (almost) ˜makeup free.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Face Palette

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Face Palette. Love, love, love this palette. I once forgot my makeup case on a business trip and had this palette in my purse and did my whole face with it (including lips). It’s amazing!

What is a piece of style or beauty advice that’s always struck you as timeless?
Attitude is everything, so just own your style and your look.
