Nail Art Trend: Textured Manicures

Nails have been acting as a canvas for creative artwork for the last few seasons, complimenting sporty or soft looks on the runway with neon, pastel or patterned manciures. In the latest round of runway shows, a few designers are took it up a notch by adding texture. The nail art trend will continue long past this summer, so here are a few ideas to add some texture to your manicure.

Texture Nail Art Trend One: Arts and Crafts
Nails by Marian Newman and Ciate Caviar Nails
Marian Newman, manicurist who’s worked with the likes of Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen and Emanuel Ungaro, has been creating works of art on nails for years. She’s added 3D flowers, feather and chains to fingertips. While mimicking these looks may not be practical at your desk job, Caviar Nails by Ciate add a touch of arts and crafts to your manicure. The kit comes with a base coat, as well as beads to dip your nails in that create a caviar texture.

Texture Nail Art Trend Two: Glitter and Glass
Manicure at The Blonds and Salley Hansen Gem Crush
On the Fall/Winter 2012 runways, manicures at the Blonds show took texture to the next level. Artists at CND used real shards of glass to create a manicure that shimmered from dark to light blue, and another from black to gold to compliment that clothing. To recreate these looks at home, sparkly topcoats add instant texture to your nails. Sally Hansen’s Gem Crush nail polish is sure to give a high-shine look. Or layer Nicole by OPI Texture Coat in Quartz Texture or Amethyst Texture for a two-toned manicure.

Texture Nail Art Trend Three: Fabric Nails
Manicure at Ruffian and Kiss Nail Stickers
CND created a few less dramatic nails for the Blonds’ show, including leather and bleached denim manicures. At Joy Cioci CND created a new take on the French manicure. Fishnet stockings were adhered to the tips of a stiletto-shaped nail with a base coat, for a bit of texture. At the Ruffian show, manicurists redid the half-moon manicure, which was popular last fall, in red velvet with a contrasting lilac half-moon. Nail stickers like Kiss Nail Stickers and Nail Rock Stickers have textures and stones to channel the designer look at home.
