Make Your Makeup Last!

Sunshine and warm weather are great, but they can also wreak havoc with your makeup, causing it to run, drip or simply melt away.

Thankfully, whether you need your face to last through a hot night on the town or just a long day at the office, we’ve got some simple tips to keep your makeup looking perfect.

Face

Apply your moisturizer 10 to 20 minutes before applying your foundation so that it can fully absorb into your skin.

Lightly brush your face with a powder after applying foundation, to help it set. Carry a compact of pressed powder with you to make on-the-go touch-ups.

If your day requires more than just foundation and powder, apply a face primer. Relatively new on the market, primers help to smooth fine lines, allowing your makeup to glide on easier. Primers also create a protective base for your makeup, help even out your skin tone, and control shine. Let the primer absorb into your skin for a few minutes before applying foundation or powder.

Blot your face throughout the day with a tissue (makeup blotters are best, but a regular tissue will also do) to remove oil.

Cheeks

Try a cheek stain instead of regular powder or cream blush for an extra long-lasting rosy glow. But go lightly “ a little goes a long way. Stains are fast-drying (and hard to remove), so apply to one cheek at a time.

Eyes

Use foundation and a light powder on your eyelids before applying shadow. Or you could try a primer specially designed for the eye area, like Sephora’s Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion or Mac’s Prep and Prime Eye.

For extra staying power, use a waterproof mascara. Apply mascara only on the upper lashes, as the lower lashes are more likely to smudge.

Use a liquid liner; they last longer than pencil ones.

Lips

Apply foundation to your lips before using any lipstick or lip liner “ the foundation will act as a base and keep your lipstick from fading.

Use a lip liner around the edges of your lips to keep colour where it’s supposed to be. Use a clear liner or one in the same shade as your lipstick to keep it looking natural.

Apply one layer of lipstick, then blot your lips with a tissue before applying the second layer to remove any excess.

If your lipstick still won’t last, try a lip stain. Just remember to apply carefully “ like cheek stains, once a lip stain is on, it can be hard to get off.

Finish

Use a big, fluffy brush to apply translucent powder all over your face. The powder will set your makeup, giving you a smooth, silky finish.
