Get Perfect Lashes

When it comes to lashes, the curvier, the better. The key to lifted, perfectly curled lashes?  The right technique.  Here’s how.

Pick the right curler

Afraid that lash curlers will hurt or pinch your lids? Truth is, whether you choose a metal, plastic or heated variety, each is carefully engineered to fit the delicate contours of the eye area. Traditional metal clamp styles are the most durable; plastic varieties are a little easier to manoeuver while heated types give the maximum staying power.

If you choose a ‘clamp’ style, make sure that there’s a silicone or foam pad that comes with the curler to cushion the lashes”without it, you could risk tearing or pulling them out. If you’re not sure about using a heated variety, you can heat up your metal one (just blast the lash curler with your hair dryer for 10 seconds). The heat will help shape your eyelashes and define the curl. Heating the curler will also help keep the shape for a longer period of time.

Dry lashes are a must

Make sure your lashes are clean and completely dry so the curl holds. Don’t apply any mascara before you curl since it could pull out lashes and gunk up your curler.

Aim to Squeeze

Think of curling lashes in three places: Squeeze at the base of the lash line (ie, the root of the lash), the middle of the lash and then close to the tip of the lashes. This will allow lashes to have a gentle, consistent curve instead of one big ‘kink.’

Apply the right mascara

For the pié¨ce de ré©sistance, coat lashes twice with a curling mascara. The right mascara will help ‘set’ the curl and give you that doe-eyed effect.
